ODCE 2019 Annual Report

The ODCE issued the 2019 Annual Report and the key points from the report are:-

• High profile investigations into Independent News & Media, Console Suicide Bereavement Counselling Ltd, Football Association of Ireland (“FAI”)
• The DPP directed charges on 23 counts of theft contrary to Sec 4 of the Criminal Justice(Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001 and the defendant was sentenced to 24 months’ imprisonment with the final 19 months suspended
• €2,000 fine for unauthorised use of an Auditor Registration Number
• 900 liquidators statutory reports, 106 company directors restricted or disqualified
• 22 directors were disqualified
• Unlawful directors loans to the aggregate value of over €27m were rectified
• 28 cautions were issued to companies and directors
• Over 1,250 reports referrals, complaints and other inputs from various sources
• Use of statutory powers in over 170 cases including the requiring the production of books and documents
