The CRO has issued its annual report for 2021 and the following are some of the key points from the report:-
- 270,835 companies on the Register at the end of the year
- 510,000 submissions filed with the CRO
- Over 89% of all documents filed with the CRO were filed electronically
- 594 Sec 343 notices of applications from companies to the District Court for extension of time to file a late annual return. Zero applications were refused by the Courts
- No reports of unregistered auditors attempting to file false auditors’ reports
- 25,468 new companies formed in 2021 an increase of 16%
- 2,122 on average per month compared with 1,822 in 2020
- 202 external company registrations 116 from the UK
- 428 companies re-registered down from 676 in 2020
- 3,691 persons on the register of Disqualified Persons
- 481 persons on the Register of Restricted Persons
- 24 companies struck off the Register because of no EEA resident director appointed
- 7,033 companies struck off voluntarily in 2021 an increase of 28% over 2020
- 140 companies restored to the register (72 Court and 68 administrative) a 53% decrease from 2020
- 23,374 business names registered electronically an 8% increase on 2020
- 334 Limited Partnerships registered in 2021 an increase from 214 registered in 2020
- 10,309 companies paid late filing penalties in 2021 with an average late filing fee of €580
- 2,697 change of company names
- 7 companies went into examinership
- No notices from auditors that Proper Books Were not Kept
- 749 companies purchased their own shares
