Companies Registration Office 2024 Annual Report

The CRO recently published its 2024 Annual Report and we have set out some of the main highlights from the annual report below.

  • 324,531 companies on the register at the end of 2024
      • An extra 15,720 companies on the register at the end of 2024 (no involuntary strike off occurred in 2024)
  • 566,827 submissions filed in 2024 (95% electronically)
  • Sec 243 District Court Applications
      • 1,938 notices of applications received by CRO
      • 1,858 Letter of Acknowledgement / No Objection issued
      • CRO lodged 5 objections
      • 1,749 Orders granted by the District Courts
      • No applications were refused by the Courts
      • 14 applications withdrawn and 231 adjourned to 2025
  • 34 Official Complaints
  • New Companies
      • 23,652 new companies incorporated
      • 7% increase on 2023
      • Average of 1,971 per month in 2024
  • External Companies
      • 181 new external companies registered in 2024
      • 37 EEA and 144 non-EEA
  • 320 Re-Registrations in 2024 (decrease from 393 in 2023)
  • 2,233 change of names were approved
  • 12,015 charges filed in 2024 (an increase from 10,704 in 2023)
  • 4,433 Liquidations in 2024
      • 2516 MVL
      • 1846 CVL
      • 71 Court Liquidations
  • 164 Receivers Appointed in 2024 (an increase on 108 in 2023)
  • SCARP
      • 30 Appointment of a process advisor
      • 26 notifications of approval of a rescue plan
  • 5,926 persons on the Register of Disqualified Persons
  • 689 persons on the Register of Restricted Persons
  • Involuntary Strike off still paused
  • 6,737 companies were applied for Voluntary Strike Off (an increase on 6,227 in 2023)
  • 47 companies restored to the Register (a decrease on the 62 in 2023)
      • 24 Court restoration and 22 administrative restorations
  • 20,066 Business Names were registered in 2024 (an increase of 1.6% on 2023
  • 149 Limited Partnerships were registered in 2024 (an increase on 147 in 2023)
  • CRO Income for 2024 was €20.5 million with an expenditure of €8.41m
      • €9.7 million in late filing fees and €9.7 million in submission fees
      • 16,073 companies paid late filing penalties in 2024
