Update on Entering PPSN details for CRO

It’s over a month since the introduction of the new requirement for Directors to disclose their PPSN or IPN when filing certain forms with the CRO. For more information on the new provisions see our previous article.

The CRO have included a new section in CORE that may help directors where their name registered with the Department of Social Protection (“DSP”) is different to what is registered in the CRO. This should avoid having to update the CRO records or the DSP records.

Directors Details

The following information must be provided for each director when completing a CRO form:

If the name of the director as per the CRO records is different to the name registered with the DSP that name may be entered in the new box below the directors’ details (See below image)

These details will then be used to match the details with the DSP.

Examples where this could be used include:-

  • Pat in CRO Patrick in DSP
  • Amanda in CRO and Amanda Jane in DSP
  • Mary O’Brien in CRO Mary Murphy being her maiden name in DSP

If the details do not match what is recorded for that director in the DSP, the form will be rejected and either the CRO or the DSP details will have to be updated.

If using an IPN the following box appears:

Feedback so Far

The feedback we have received so far is as to be expected!

  • A lot of issues with names and a lot of B1’s are being rejected
  • The name must match with the DSP not Revenue or any other Government department
  • The IPN numbers are being issued quickly
  • If an annual return is rejected it can be difficult to determine which directors’ details are incorrect and then company has 14 days to resubmit the annual return to the CRO

The best advice is to try and review the directors’ details in advance and match it with the DSP well in advance of the ARD filing deadline.
